The Real Deal:

Circuit Works is an hour long class that consists of 60 second increments of continually changing aerobic and anaerobic exercise.  The room looks like a huge obstacle course!  Half the class starts on either the treadmill or the bike, while the other half is at one of the many strength training stations.  There are flip charts on the wall that detail the floor exercises of the day and aid you in locating which station to go to next.  There are also two instructors that lead each class; the lead instructor is on a head-set and gives verbal directions to guide you from station to station, while the accompanist walks around the room fixing your form and making sure the exercises are being performed properly.  The music is pumping and so is your heart rate as you absolutely DO NOT stop moving for the full 60 minutes.  Circuit Works is a difficult workout, but still completely doable for beginners.  The instructors are all very knowledgeable, know when to push you and when to ease off, and they will make sure you are performing at your appropriate fitness level.  With its mix of short cardio bursts and strength building exercises, Circuit Works is the ULTIMATE full body workout!

Know Before You Go:

  • Bring a towel and LOTS of water
  • Parking can be a bit difficult on Abbot Kinney, so plan on giving yourself extra time.  You can also find parking in the neighboring streets just behind the studio
  • Your first class is FREE!  Just visit the website and click on the “Free Class” tab

What a workout!!  Circuit Works is easily in my Top 3 of favorite workouts in Los Angeles.  I haven’t come across an instructor that I don’t love, and have never experienced a “bad” class.  Circuit Works ALWAYS delivers.  The beauty of this workout is the variety.  Each time you go to class there is a new combination of floor exercises so you really never get bored with the workout, and, we all know that the best way to change your body is to change up your exercise routine.  The circuit moves fast, but don’t worry, the instructors prepare you ahead of time.  They give a quick demo of each exercise so that you know what to do once class begins, and the accompanist makes you feel almost like you have a personal trainer as he/she always makes sure you are set-up to complete the exercises with proper form.  The treadmill and bike cardio sections are intense, but they only last a minute so you can really push yourself.  Sometimes instructors even make you run on the treadmill with weights…so don’t say I didn’t warn you smile  Another Circuit Works plus: you are asked near the end of class if you would like to purchase a fresh-made smoothie, which is available for you as soon as the session ends.  How cool is that?  You MUST take advantage of the free class and give Circuit Works a try!  Maybe it will end up in your Top 3!

WOW!!  What can I say, Circuit Works is an amazing workout.  It is located on Abbot Kinney in Venice, tucked away with all the cool restaurants and shops.  I was a little confused at first with all the station changing, but there was always someone to help point me in the right direction, and after a while, it all starts to make sense.  Each station consists of about one minute, so basically you work as hard as you can until it’s time to switch.  The class never gets boring due to the one minute intervals, and just remember…you can do ANYTHING for one minute.
