The Real Deal:

Revolution Fitness is tucked away in a courtyard off Montana Avenue and is THE place to spin in Santa Monica.  Once you walk in, you are immediately welcomed by the warm and friendly staff at the front desk, who will also help you in getting your bike adjusted if you need.  The majority of the classes are 50 minutes, and are both challenging for seasoned spinners and non-threatening for first-timers.  All of the instructors are great, and also extremely different in the way that they teach and motivate their classes…so you may need to experiment a bit until you find the one that works best for you. They do not rent spinning shoes, but do not require them either; there are attachments for regular workout shoes and water and towels available for purchase at the front desk if you forget yours.  Revolution is always offering amazing promotions to new students (1 week for only $30), so if you want to burn around 500 calories in 50 minutes…we recommend you give this studio a try!  Don’t forget that Rev also offers an array of other classes like TRX and Indo-Row.  Revolution is now open in Venice on Abbot Kinney Blvd.  Two great locations…same great workouts!

Know Before You Go:

  • Classes offered Monday-Sunday from 6:00am-7:00pm, depending on the day.
  • Classes are $16 each, or can be purchased as a series in groups of 5,10, 15, 20, as well as unlimited monthly and yearly passes. The series vary in price from $75-$2,000.
  • What you’ll need: A towel (they are mandatory) and a water bottle.
  • There is metered parking all along Montana Ave, so don’t forget to bring quarters!

It’s always such a treat going to Revolution Fitness.  For one, I really love all of the instructors (but if I HAD to pick a favorite…Chris Plourde would rest at the top of my list) and always get such an amazing workout no matter whose class I attend.  The best part about Rev though is the feeling I get when I walk in the door.  The girls at the front desk WILL remember your name after just one class, and it is so nice to be greeted with a smile from someone who treats you more like a friend than a patron.  If you decide to check out Chris Plourde’s T/Th 6:00am class (which I highly recommend doing), make sure to sign up online ahead of time, or show up early to secure a spot (especially if you want to be near a fan!) as his class will definitely fill up.  I really enjoy Chris’ teaching style because he encourages his spinners to envision that they are actually IN a race, or climbing up a windy mountain road, or pedaling faster to inch in front of their fellow bikers (and his music is SO inspiring too!).  This technique really helps me push further because I feel like I’m a part of the action and not just sitting on a bike in a studio…and as a result, I’m sweaty and spent, but happy, at that 50 minute mark.

My very first spinning class was sure to be my last one…until I started taking classes at Revolution Fitness.  Anyone can do this, but you need the drive and motivation, and the rest will follow.  I have always opted for the early morning classes, this helps to start my day off in the right direction.  Like with all other classes, there is an instructor for everyone, I love them all, but my favorites are Bobby Neely and Chris Plourde!  The classes are packed but it never feels crowded, and everyone is so nice.  Plus, they have a locker room and shower so you can get ready for your day.  I recommend that everyone stop by to check out a spinning class, it truly is an amazing experience!
